A tribute to Tim Dyde who sadly and unexpectedly died in October 2014

As you may know Tim was a lawyer with Tozers and acted for many families in the Group and supported the Group for many years.  I am sure that many of you would have grown to know him on a personal level and have fond memories of him.   Following his death we received a number of donations from group members, Tim’s family, friends and colleagues and we thought it fitting to use these funds to establish a memorial to Tim and his work, and to recognise the immeasurable support that Tim had given to the group over the years.

With the kind permission of Tim’s family I am pleased to announce the launch of the Tim Dyde Fund for Gifted Individuals.

The fund is to provide financial assistance to gifted or talented individuals who have Erb’s Palsy to help them along the road to achieving their aims. The fund is available upon successful application to those aged between 12 years – 25 years and who have been recognised by an independent body as having a talent in sports, arts or music.

The pursuit of such aims requires both dedication but also financial commitment and this can often prove to be a barrier to success. Travelling around the UK to enter national competitions to achieve international classification in swimming for example comes with a hefty price tag.

We would very much like to support those deserving young people, and see many more pioneering individuals like Rachael Latham and Joe Hughes in the future.

Applications should be made by application form and can be submitted by post, email or via the website. Further information and the fund guidelines setting out eligibility criteria can also be found on the website.

Financial support will be given by way of lump sum to assist individuals with necessary expenditure and although not restricted to such, examples of the type of expenditure which the fund can assist with are equipment, travel/accommodation costs or competition entry fees.    We do expect that applicants demonstrate efforts to contribute or raise funds themselves to show a level of commitment, and if successful to promote the Erb’s Palsy Group.

We hope that those that knew Tim Dyde and experienced his enthusiasm particularly for Sport and Music will consider it fitting for this fund to be established in his memory. We are sure that Tim would be very honoured, if also a little embarrassed.
